A new research project at TU Munich building games that teach kanji.
Are you a learner or teacher of Japanese? Do you develop games or do research? Or simply curious?
Help us decide what gets built!
We want to bring stakeholders together to co-design new and fun ways of learning and teaching kanji.
The research project runs at the Chair of N-Dimensional User Experience at TU Munich, supervised by Dr. David Plecher.
A kick-off co-design workshop at the beginning of the winter semester: teachers, researchers and developers designing together and shaping the project's direction.
Format and date are both open. On site, online or hybrid, the questionnaire decides. It takes five minutes to fill out, and is not a registration.
A Masterpraktikum at TUM this winter. Building and breaking prototypes. The main question we aim to answer: how to best design a game that carries the learning content instead of decorating it.
Mechanics, scope and tech are not set in stone. So far the team is two of us. The earlier you join, the more you get to be part in shaping the project.
No requirements, nothing to prepare and no commitment. Play the prototypes early and tell us what is wrong with them.
Studies run from time to time. Be sure to join the community to hear when they happen.
Our first study takes place in September. Its aim is to validate our learning-data platform for use in future studies.
We are looking for adults learning Japanese at around JLPT N4 level. You can participate entirely online and in your own time.
A Discord for this and future programmes. Teachers, researchers, developers, learners, and anyone simply curious is welcome. Join us here to get updates on the project.
